Bright Star ProductionZ was founded by Laura K. Vannah, M.A., as Oswego County's own Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. She and her team have been boosting morale, creating one-of-a-kind events and festivals, and delighting audiences all over Central New York for six years.

Bright Star Theatre Company Actors (as they are now called) have delighted audiences with their antics since 2004; have performed in many different locations from Arena's Eis House in Mexico NY to the Lake Ontario Comedy Playhouse in Sackets harbor, and many points all over Central New York; they’ve seen lots of familiar faces continue to attend the public shows; and in 2006, they even had a real live marriage proposal at the Marriage Can Be Murder show.
There have been over 60 performances, numerous talented and professional actors, lots of props & costumes, the inside of many rooms, hundreds of sleuth sheets, and many super-sleuth awards.
Bright Star Theatre Company Actors have performed at fundraisers for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, St. Paul's Cathedral, and the Central Square Music Boosters to name a few. Corporate clients have included Eastman Kodak, W.J. Cox Insurance, Ascent, East Coast Resorts, and the West Elmira Library. They’ve even performed on a boat on the Erie Canal for Welch Allyn. Good thing no one ‘fell into the drink’, just an actor's keys.

Their most popular shows are Death By Disco, Murder Ahoy, and Who Killed the King. But who couldn’t resist the temptation to “Kill the Boss” once in a while, or break out the Guinness with ole Seamus in “Wake Me When I’m Dead”?
Laura and her team are always creating new and exciting productions. They offer the S.W.O.T Show, Char-actors like “Charlie Chaplin”, “Abbott & Costello”, “Ralph Kramden”, even Youth Mystery Hikes.

Bright Star ProductionZ grew again when Laura founded the Native Circle:Touch the Earth Festival for the Lake Ontario Bird Festival in 2006. The Native Circle has grown over the years as well. It became a festival in its own right in 2008, and, in 2010, expanded to a two-day event, doubled the performers, and tripled the number of attendees. It is held every May on Memorial Day Weekend at the beautiful Mexico Point Park.

As a member of the Thunder Hawk Singers, Ms. Vannah herself performs at the Native Circle every year, bringing the audience to tears with her signature Cherokee Amazing Grace. The Thunder Hawk Singers won a 2009 Best Historical Recording Native American Music Award for their CD Native Pride. They are also on a compilation CD called "Rise-up: Music from Native America" on which 21 Native Music Artists come together to promote national awareness of the homeless crises in America.

In 2008, Ms. Vannah adapted the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" into a full day-long outdoor event, called A Wonderful Life Day, performing at the Seneca Falls “It’s A Wonderful Life Festival”. Laura was a part of an actual marriage this time (no not her own). (Read the full Finger Lakes Times review on our Media page) Set the day before Christmas, Bright Star Theatre char-actors re-enact short vignettes from this timeless movie, including the two famous “Bridge Scenes”. High-quality entertainment to unite any community or organization, this is sure to be a big hit with any size crowd.

At the beginning of 2010, Laura K. Vannah, M.A., CEO and Executive Director of Bright Star ProductionZ, decided it was time to create her own ensemble-based theatre company to perform collaborative pieces using the technique she designed for her Master’s Thesis.
"3 Above-Below-WITHIN", a showcase of exercises, monologues, and scene work featuring Bright Star Theatre Company actors Dallas DeFee and Laura K. Vannah.
